Unique Museums in the Southeast

If you’re looking for something interesting to do that is off the beaten path, then keep reading. We have a new series that highlights unique museums with interesting or unconventional collections. This week take a look at some fun places in the Southeast US.

Biloxi Mardi Gras Museum, Biloxi, MS
Mardi Gras isn’t only celebrated in the Big Easy, after all Biloxi was the previous capital of French Louisiana before it was moved to New Orleans in the 1700s. The museum curators will tell the story behind the ornate and intricate costumes, masks and of course beads. Learn the 300-year history of the carnival celebration then, head over to the gift shop for some Fat Tuesday souvenirs.

Rusty’s TV and Movie Car Museum, Jackson, TN
Over 30 vehicles made famous by the big screen are located at Rusty’s. Find the Ghostbusters car, the Mystery Machine, Herbie, cars from the movie Fast and the Furious and more. Expedition Bigfoot, Blue Ridge, GA
Interested in seeing the largest collection of Bigfoot footprint casts, gear and equipment used to hunt the elusive bigfoot? Look no further than Expedition Bigfoot in Blue Ridge, Georgia. Touted as the world’s largest Bigfoot museum, there are life-sized interactive exhibits, sound recordings and a gift shop.

Hank Williams Museum, Montgomery, AL
If you’re a classic country music enthusiast, then the Hank Williams (Sr.) museum will appeal to you. Authentic artifacts from the musician’s life and legacy can be found here; including the musician’s Cadillac, custom-made boots, records and rare photos. A statue of the singer is located outside on the street and makes the perfect photo opp to end the tour.

Hollywood Wax Museum, Myrtle Beach, SC
Take your photo on stage with Lady GaGa, or in the kitchen with Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart. Pose on the set of the Ellen DeGeneres show. You will find dozens of fun sets here where you can hang with your favorite celebrity. The life-like resemblance is so uncanny your photos will look like you really met your idol. American Police Hall of Fame and Museum, Titusville, FL
Pay homage to officers killed in the line of duty. View old police cars and counterfeit money. Since 1960 the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum has served as a memorial for those officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The museum also features a modern indoor shooting center that offers rentals and target training.  

Nascar Hall of Fame, Charlotte, NC
Speed demons feel right at home at the Nascar Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina. See famous cars from Nascar and even one from Disney/Pixar. Hop in the simulator and see what it feels like to be a real-life Nascar driver.
