A Class C is a motorhome built with a cab or cut-away chassis. A cab/cut-away chassis provides a front structure that looks like a van, including seats, a dash, opening doors, and body sheet metal. Many people like the Class C because it is familiar to their own automobile.
The beauty of a Class C motorhome is its functionality. Whether you want an adventure for two or to bring the kids or pets along for the ride, your motorhome has the storage compartments, sleeping capacity and living areas to fit everything and everyone you love. Unlike a travel trailer, your RV allows for a swift camp set-up and to get up at a moment’s notice when you’re ready for the next destination. When you’re dry camping, boondocking, or staying at a campground, you’ll appreciate the convenience your Class C RV brings.
Yes, Thor Motor Coach motorhomes are fully self-contained with onboard power, appliances, bathrooms, and sleeping areas, so extended stays or even “Full-timing” can be considered in a Class C. In terms of the best coach for retirees, the choices are quite plentiful. The right layout comes down to a person’s comfort level operating the vehicle and the amenities most important to support their lifestyle. Many times people, who have reached a point in their lives where travel consists of two people and a furry friend, enjoy a medium to small sized motorhome. The reduced overall footprint allows easier access to more places, so finding an accommodating place to stay is more convenient. Search and narrow your favorites with our What RV Fits You.

The width of the interior and exterior varies depending on the model. Traditional Class C models in the Four Winds, Chateau, or Quantum lines built on the Ford E-series of GM 3500/4500 series normally measure 96” interior width, and 99” exterior width. Mercedes-Benz® based products will normally measure 87” with a 90” exterior.
A CDL is not usually required if the motorhome is used for personal use. If the coach is used in a commercial application, a CDL may be required for licensing or insurance. Anyone looking at a motorhome should check all requirements in their state or province to make sure they have a clear understanding of the requirements needed to operate the vehicle.

Automobiles can be towed behind since all Thor Motor Coach Class C’s have a tow hitch. Vehicle owners must pay special attention to the recommendations for towing as many of today’s cars, trucks and SUVs cannot be towed 4 wheels down. Also, there are restrictions on the speed and distance many vehicles can be towed. View our helpful towing video on YouTube:
Towing is based on the overall GCWR (gross combined weight rating) and the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating). Subtracting the GVWR from the GCWR will provide the owner with the amount, which can be towed. All Class C’s from Thor Motor Coach are equipped with a trailer hitch. Read more on Weights and Towing in this helpful blog.
Many Class C models either offer or come with leveling jacks as standard. Some models also offer stabilizer jacks, that remove side-to-side sway when the motorhome is parked, but cost considerably less than traditional hydraulic leveling.
