Class A Motorhomes look like a tour bus in shape. The RV manufacturer builds the house on top of the raw chassis containing the drivetrain and suspension components. Most of the time, Class A’s are some of the largest, offering both gasoline and diesel-powered options.
Class A motorhomes are an ideal fit for anyone looking to upsize or enter the world of RVing, whether it is for vacations or living full-time. A Class A RV provides the perfect space for outdoor living and entertainment, as well as room to spread out within the coach if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
Class A Motorhomes cannot have a body width more than 8’6,” which does not include safety features like mirrors. For most models, the width of the body is 8’2”- 8’6”.

Most motorhomes are purchased for personal use and not under a commercial title. If the motorhome is for personal use, weight stations are not likely required. If a business buys a motorhome and titles in the company’s name, weight station requirements may be enforced. It is best to check all local and federal laws to ensure compliance.
There is not a one-size-fits-all answer. The smallest of Class A Motorhomes weigh 10,000 lbs, while some of the largest weigh over 50,000 lbs.

The headlights on Class As adjust at the light itself. The front of the motorhome has a cap made of fiberglass in most cases, and it houses the windshield, lights, and hood. Access to the light adjustments varies by model, but most of the adjustment can be handled from underneath the front of the motorhome or through the front hood.
Most Class A models have automatic leveling. The systems are hydraulic and feature four jacks. For a guide on leveling a motorhome, click on this link:
Some states require special endorsements for motorhomes operators. We do not know of any CDL requirements for personal vehicles at this time. However, if a business titles the vehicle and uses it in a commercial nature, a CDL requirement may exist. Please check local regulations to see what rules are in place in your town or province.
The most significant difference is the cockpit area. Class As are the same width from front to rear without the automotive cab, as found on Class Cs. Driving either Class of vehicle takes practice, but with some seat time, both will feel as natural as driving a car.
Driving a motorhome is simple. The operation of the vehicle is very similar to any automobile. The biggest differences come from the overall increased size of the coach. Understanding the length, turn radius, and road manners requires close attention, but with practice, the drive will become more natural.
Most Class A Motorhomes do not have airbags.
